Recently, Girl Scout Troop 40294 of West Chester Woodland Mounds Service Unit, organized a grocery bingo for low income senior housing residents in Mason. The girls brought in bags of groceries which were given to the winner of each game. Troop 40294 put in the bags, items
such of noodles, tuna, cream of mushroom soup, pears, corn etc. to make a meal for them. The seniors enjoyed playing the bingo as well winning some of the groceries to take home.

Troop members called bingo for an hour and then joined Troop 43683 also of Woodland Mounds in some Christmas caroling to top off the night!!! Everyone had a great time!!!

Creekwood Service Unit's 2008 World Thinking Day Celebration was full of fun, food, games, and Girl Scout traditions from around the world. Troops raised over $100 for the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund and collected four bags of canned and non-perishable goods for the Vineyard Community Church food pantry. Pictured is troop 49400, ready for the opening flag ceremony. Many thanks to all of the dedicated leaders and girls who worked hard to prepare and braved the weather for a very successful event!
Senior Girl Scout, Jazmone Kelly recently accepted a four year scholarship to play basketball at Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA).

Jazmone is a member of Girl Scout troop 6788, a Girl Scout Gold Award candidate, and President of Mayor of Cincinnati’s Youth Council. She was congratulated by family and friends at a signing ceremony held on November 14, 2007 at Ursuline Academy in Blue Ash. Jazmone chose UXLA because of its Pre-Med program, high graduation rate, and the success of its Women’s Basketball program. She plans to major in pre-medicine and minor in African-American studies.

Jazmone is a disciplined, multi-talented athlete who has been playing sports since the age of four. In her formative years she played basketball for Mt. Auburn, North Avondale, and Friars Club Community Center. At age ten she started her Amateur Athletic Union career. She currently plays for Cincinnati’s Mid-West Express team.

As a Girl Scout, Jazmone traveled with her troop to Hagley Gap, Jamaica in August 2007 to teach rural children and conduct a mini-basketball camp. Jazmone says, “the trip broadened my understanding of how important a higher education is and the need for more doctors in this part of the world. It also intensified my resolve to continue to excel and reach my goal of becoming a doctor and owning a medical research company." Jazmone is also a 2006 Girl Scouts Wider Opportunities Destination award recipient, traveling to Ashville, North Carolina to mountain climb, repel, and lived outdoors for a week.
Girl Scouts Earn President's Volunteer Service Award

Five Girl Scouts from troop 280 earned the 'President's Volunteer Service Award' by individually contributing over 70 volunteer hours in one calendar year to our community. Many of the hours were dedicated to the Safety-Village program, Girl Scout Day Camp, Anderson Food Pantry and their place of worship.

The Gold level requires 100+ hours; Silver Level requires 75-99 hours; Bronze level requires 50-74 hours of service. Each girl received her level pin, a personalized letter of achievement, a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States and a letter from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.

Congratulations Junior Girl Scout troop 48152! This incredible troop has worked with Ronald McDonald House to make a difference in the lives of families with sick children for six years straight.

Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts in the Creekwood Service Unit had two fun filled days learning about aerospace at their campout.  Topics included: what makes an airplane or kite fly, how to use a telescope and binoculars for space exploration, how to build and fly a paper airplane, what makes a rocket work, women in history that were pilots and women who became astronauts.  The girls also learned about career paths available to them in aviation.  Once again these Girl Scouts proved that learning can be fun!
For Daisy Girl Scout Troop 1340 great things come in small packages.  The girls showed that they could contribute to our community and make a difference.  They learned about serving their community as they worked to earn their Daisy petals.  While learning the skills of quilting, the girls made four beautiful blankets that they donated to Project Linus.  During the holidays they collected and donated new and gently used toys for Valley Inter Faith Food and Clothing Foundation.  For Valentines’ Day, the girls decorated cards that were distributed by Sycamore Senior Center Meals on Wheels Program.  These projects throughput the year built a firm foundation of service which will continue in their future years of Girls Scouting.  Great things definitely can come in small packages, way to go girls!

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 423 from St. Veronica School gave shelter by helping to fulfill a wish list from the Clermont County Humane Society. In addition to many items donated, the girls made homemade dog and cat treats packaged in colorful bags with the recipes attached.

When visiting the shelter troop members asked that one of their special treat bags be given to everyone who adopts a pet. After touring the shelter, the girls even got to learn more about proper animal care from one of the shelter representatives.

Way to go girls! Combining learning, service and fun has made troop 423 a big hit in their community.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 6678 were able to collect several hundred food and household products to fill the shelves of the Mason Food Pantry. The 10 members led by Julie Adwani, Lisa Miller and Kim Imholte are also spending service hours sorting food, stocking shelves, painting and assisting pantry visitors as part of this Bronze Award project.

Great job making a difference girls!

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 8587 had a fantastic 2007 Girl Scout Cookie Program experience!  The troop was able to collect 164 boxes and voted to donate them to Glad House.  Troop member Lily Gatch had the honor of delivered her troops Cookie Share cookies to Glad House in person.

The children at Glad House were thrilled to help unload the tasty treats.  Great job Lily and Troop 8587!
